7 Facts: Robin Lehner

The New York Islanders signed goalie Robin Lehner to a one-year contract on Tuesday. Lehner is a 26-year-old goalie from Gothenburg, Sweden and has played parts of eights seasons in the NHL with the Ottawa Senators (2010-15) and Buffalo Sabres (2015-18).
He's 6'4, 245 lbs., catches left and was drafted in 2009 (R2, P46) by the Senators. Get to know one of the newest New York Islanders in this edition of 7 Facts.

1. HIS STATS

In 219 career games, Lehner has a 72-97-35 record with a 2.82 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage with eight shutouts.
Last season in Buffalo, Lehner was 14-26-9 with a 3.01 GAA and a .908 SV% and three shutouts.

2. HE WON A CALDER CUP:

Lehner backstopped the Binghamton Senators to an American Hockey League championship in 2011. The goalie posted a 14-4-0 record with a 2.10 GAA, .939 SV% and three shutouts en route to winning the playoff MVP award.
One year after winning the Calder Cup, Lehner posted a career-year with Binghamton, leading the AHL in save percentage (.938) and setting career highs in wins (18) and goals-against average (2.12). Lehner made the AHL All-Star Game that season.

3. HE PLAYED IN THE WORLD JUNIORS:

Lehner represented Sweden in the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships. The Gothenburg, Sweden native appeared in three games, going 2-0-1. Sweden finished fourth after losing to the United States in the bronze medal game.
Lehner also represented Sweden in the 2009 U-18 World Juniors and won Sweden's U-20 Championship with Frolunda in 2007-08.

4. HE'S PLAYED FOR OTTAWA AND BUFFALO:

Lehner was drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the second round (46th overall) in 2009 and went on to play parts of five seasons in Ottawa, primarily as a backup.
Lehner was traded from Ottawa to Buffalo in 2015 for a first-round pick - the same pick Buffalo acquired from the Islanders in the Thomas Vanek-Matt Moulson trade. Lehner has spent the past three seasons in Buffalo and has started more than 50 games in each of the past two seasons.

5. HE WAS AN OHL ALL-STAR:

Lehner played one season for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in 2009-10 after getting drafted by Ottawa in 2009. Lehner was an all-star, posting a 27-13-3 record with the hounds, with a 2.80 GAA and a .918 SV% and five shutouts - the most in the OHL that season.

6. HE BOUGHT DANIEL ALFREDSSON'S HOUSE IN OTTAWA:

According to
NHL Network's Kevin Weekes, former Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson sold his house
to the goaltender after Aldfredsson's departure from Ottawa in 2013.

7. HIS FATHER IS A GOALIE COACH:

Lehner's father, Michael, has served as a goalie coach in the Swedish Hockey League with Frolunda (2006-08, 2010-11) and in Russia's KHL with CSKA Moscow (2008-09) and Dynamo Moscow (2009-10).
Michael Lehner also served as the goalie coach for Belarus during the 2016 World Championships.
According to the Sault Star
, Michael Lehner was Henrik Lundqvist's goalie coach in Frolunda before Lundqvist joined the New York Rangers. Lehner also trained former NHL forward Kristian Huselius.
