The 2026 Lightning Home Opener Pregame Guide

We’re officially single-digit days away from Lightning hockey at Benchmark International Arena.

The first firing of the Tesla coil.

The first goal horn.

That first square-up and glove drop? 100% pure dopamine.  

It all goes down Saturday as the Lightning host the Capitals at 7 pm ET.  The Bolts will once again start the season positioned among the top teams in the NHL, boasting a roster more than capable of competing for a tenth consecutive playoff berth in Tampa Bay. The organization added experience, leadership, depth and versatility in the offseason. Not to mention the return of the Jack Adams, Vezina and Hart Trophy winners to boot.

As for Saturday, the Lightning’s home opening celebration is loaded with revelry throughout Ford Thunder Alley and Water Street. Here’s everything you can expect leading up to Saturday’s 7 p.m. puck drop.

Ford Thunder Alley, Cigar City Tap Room & Bolts Bay Open, 3 pm

Imagine this:

It’s a quintessential fall afternoon in Downtown Tampa (87 degrees, overcast). The smell of hockey is in the air (burgers over charcoal, beer). A sea of blue descends upon Benchmark International Arena (new merch available, sick). Ford Thunder Alley Season is so back this Saturday, with a litany of food and beverage offerings to be had at Cigar City Taproom and Bolts Bay. And for those in the market for new Bolts gear, the Tampa Bay Sports Store will open at 12 pm with new collection drops for the 2026-27 season.

Jack Adams, Vezina, & Hart Trophy Photo Op on Ford Thunder Alley, 3-4 pm

If you’ve ever wanted photographic evidence that you’re a former MVP of the National Hockey League, you’re in luck. Three of the league’s most prestigious trophies will be on display prior to Saturday’s game, as won by head coach Jon Cooper, Andrei Vasilevskiy and Nikita Kucherov for their accomplishments last season.

Player Blue Carpet Walk, 3:45-4:30 pm

As is tradition, the Bolts will arrive to Saturday’s home opener premiere-style, turning Ford Thunder Alley into a temporary episode of Entourage. There will be star athletes, finely tailored suits and more than enough room to catch an up-close-and-personal glimpse at this year’s team.

Scripps Live Broadcast from Ford Thunder Alley

The Lightning’s local version of College Gameday is back with a fan-friendly setup outside Benchmark International Arena. Paul Kennedy returns as studio host alongside Dave Andreychuk, Braydon Coburn and Ryan Malone.

Rohna live from Ford Thunder Alley, 4:30 pm

Florida five-piece Rohna has spent most of the decade bringing their alternative indie rock sound to festivals like Gasparilla Music Fest and Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival. On Saturday, they’ll take the legendary Ford Thunder Alley stage starting at 4:30 pm. Fresh off the release of their second album, Don't Come Down, Rohna is all about making moments that last. (See: Crowbar’s final indie night.) And their tour credentials back that sentiment up—they’ve opened for the likes of The Black Keys, Palace, flipturn, The Moss, Good Neighbours and more.

Pregame Introductions, 6:45 pm

The home opener is far from the game you want to waltz into several minutes into the first, no beverage in hand and puck drop missed. That’s a gimmick for another fanbase. With the Lightning, you know you’re in for Emmy and Stanley Award-winning pregame presentation. Our recommendation? Be in your seats no later than 6:30-6:45.
