In each of their four wins to start the road trip, the Lightning not only scored first, they also led after the first period. That's a formula conducive to success. Once they had the lead, they were able to combine solid team defense with strong goaltending.

In this game, however, the Nashville Predators used that formula against the Lightning. The Preds scored an early goal and were able to play most of the game with the lead. They ultilized sound team defense to limit the Lightning to only 14 shots through the first two periods and goaltender Pekka Rinne was excellent in denying the scoring chances the Lightning did generate. By the time the third period arrived, the Preds had a commanding 3-0 lead.
So the Lightning were unable to finish off the perfect road trip. Still, earning eight out of a possible 10 points is fantastic. Now, the Bolts head home. But they will only be there for a few days, playing two games before heading back out on the road next weekend. It's important that they respond from this loss and make the most of the brief homestand.
