"I don't get too nervous but I was pretty nervous and pretty excited for this moment," Byfield said following being drafted. "You've been waiting for it your whole life."
TSN Analyst, Bob McKenzie believes Byfield has all the tools to be a big, point-producing No. 1 center. "He] moves extremely well for a big man; he has outstanding protection skills; he has soft hands and a hard shot; and he gets himself and the puck to the net to give himself and his teammates the opportunity to score goals," McKenzie said.

Notably, the Newmarket, Ontario, CAN, native Byfield has now become the highest-drafted black player in the NHL History; something he is very proud of.
"I think it is definitely something special and I want to be the highest Black drafted in the NHL," Byfield said to Ryan S. Clark of The Athletic.
"I think that would be something really special. I think that it shows that having guys like Evander Kane and Seth Jones and P.K. Subban getting drafted and being impact players helped me growing up. It gave me the example that I could do it some day. Maybe I could see myself as a player. Now it is my time and my turn to take that role. It would be special to know that with this new generation that you could make an impact."
Byfield has also played with the Kings 2018 second round selection, fellow Canadian Akil Thomas when they teamed up to win the gold medal at the 2020 World Junior Championships.
"We got the chance to play together on Team Canada... it'll be cool to see him again and hopefully play with him one day. He's said nothing but great words about the organization," Byfield said about reuiniting with his former teammate.
