kaboom 2022 design day

Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) Foundation, the charitable arm of the Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics and Washington Wizards, is partnering with KABOOM! and Hopkins House to fund a new MSE-themed playground to be built at the James L. & Juliette McNeil Preschool Academy in Alexandria, Va., in September.

Washington Capitals right wing Garnet Hathaway, Washington Wizards guard Jordan Schakel and Mystics Mascot Pax visited the McNeil Preschool Academy on June 22 to participate in a playground Design Day session with students from the school.
During Design Day, students rotated through activity stations designed to help them imagine their dream playground. Led by KABOOM!, Hathaway and Schakel, the children drew their dream playgrounds, and using photographs, selected pieces of play equipment they'd like to see included in the new playspace. Elements from the drawings will be incorporated into the final design for the school's new playground, which will be open to the community outside of school hours and will help address a lack of access to quality playspaces in the neighborhood.
Mystics Mascot Pax joined Hathaway, Schakel and the students for a group photo at the end of the event. After the student portion was completed, McNeil Preschool Academy parents were invited to meet with KABOOM! to offer their input to the design process. KABOOM! will deliver two designs to the school in July and allow them to select the final design that will be built in September.
This will be the eighth KABOOM! playground funded by Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation in the D.C. area (the second in Virginia) and built with involvement from its staff and teams.
