LAVAL-SUR-LE-LAC – Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Monday that forward Josh Anderson has been named alternate captain to Nick Suzuki. Defenseman Mike Matheson will also continue to act as alternate captain.
Anderson played 72 games with the Canadiens in 2025-26, producing 23 points (14G, 9A) and serving 90 penalty minutes. The 32-year-old forward led the team with two goals and four points while shorthanded, and registered the most penalty minutes among the club’s forwards. His 14 goals ranked him sixth on the team while his 129 hits ranked him fourth.
Anderson also skated in the team’s 19 playoff contests last season, scoring five goals and adding two assists. The 6-foot-3, 226-pound forward ranked fourth on the team in postseason goals, second in differential (+6) as well as third in hits (46).
Since making his NHL debut in 2014-15, Anderson played 688 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Canadiens, tallying 160 goals and 113 assists. The Burlington, ON native also served 641 penalty minutes and reached the 15-goal plateau in eight of the 10 full seasons he played.
Anderson was selected by the Blue Jackets in the fourth round (95th overall) at the 2012 NHL Draft.
