Prospect Pulse: Davidsson becoming a force in Sweden

Columbus has another late-round pick starting to develop as an intriguing forward in the Swedish Hockey League.
Jonathan Davidsson, a 20-year old right wing, was impressive last week for Djurgardens IF, and his name is being mentioned more often. Davidsson played 44 games last season in the SHL, but split the year between that level and Djurgardens' junior team in the SuperElit division.
This is Davidsson's first full SHL season, and he's already surpassed his 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 44 SHL games last season. After scoring two goals and adding an assist last week, he now has 13 points (seven goals) in about half as many games.
Davidsson's efforts helped the Iron Stoves win two games, which earned BlueJackets.com's First Star of the Week honors. Vitaly Abramov, a right wing for the Victoriaville Tigres in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, earned the Second Star with four points (two goals, two assists), and Cleveland Monsters goalie Matiss Kivlenieks is the Third Star for an impressive bounce-back start in the American Hockey League.

Notes:Davidsson had a big week for Djurgardens, the SHL's third-place team, helping the Iron Stoves win games against Linkoping (Dec. 7) and Malmo (Dec. 9). Davidsson had an assist in a 6-3 win against Linkoping, then scored twice in a 4-3 overtime victory against Malmo. He knotted the game, 3-3, at 12:54 of the third period and ended it 1:40 into OT with his seventh goal of the season.

Notes: The AHL rookie backstop was outstanding in his lone outing last week, a 38-save rebound performance Friday to defeat the Chicago Wolves. Kivlenieks allowed two goals, and stopped double-digit shots in all three periods. He made 14 saves in the first, 10 in the second, 12 in the third and helped the Monsters go 4-for-4 killing penalties. In his previous outing, Kivlenieks had allowed four goals on 30 shots in a 4-0 loss to the Manitoba Moose.

Notes: Abramov isn't on his scoring pace of last year, when he led all scorers in "The Q" with 104 points (46 goals), but he's not far off. The speedy Russian wing had yet another standout week for the Tigres, who won two of three games. Abramov had goals in wins against Sherbrooke (Dec. 8) and Chicoutimi (Dec. 10), and added two assists in the Tigres' 3-2 loss to Rimouski (Dec. 9). Abramov was invited to training camp for Team Russia, which is preparing for the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo (Dec. 26 to Jan.5).
