Rapid Recap: Avalanche 7, Canucks 1
The Colorado Avalanche dominated the Vancouver Canucks 7-1 in the first contest these two teams have had since March 2020.
Valeri Nichushkin scored the first goal of the matchup in his first game back after being out with an upper-body injury he sustained earlier this season.

Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen also tallied in the first to take the Avs to an early 3-1 lead.
Darren Helm recorded his first goal of the season late in the second off an assist from Logan O'Connor.
The Canucks were able to get a mark on the board early in the third, but ultimately fell to the Avalanche 7-1.

16:42 COL (1-0) - Alex Newhook made a back door pass to Nazem Kadri which was saved by Thatcher Demko and rebounded to the stick of Valeri Nichushkin and into the back of the net.
12:26 COL (2-0) - Mikko Rantanen made a pass to the point to Cale Makar who skated the blue line and found Gabriel Landeskog back door for a tap-in goal.
8:50 COL (3-0) - Bowen Byram disrupted the Canucks breakout attempt and Mikko Rantanen picked up the loose puck and put it passed the glove of Thatcher Demko.
2nd Period
8:55 COL (4-0) - Devon Toews passed cross-ice from the point to Samuel Girard who found Logan O'Connor back door through traffic.
3:28 COL (5-0) - Darren Helm turned the puck over shorthanded, passed up to Logan O'Connor who found Helm back door on a two-on-one rush.
0:06 COL (6-0) - Off of the face-off, the puck went back to Samuel Girard who went d-to-d with Devon Toews who one-timed it bar-down passed Demko.
3rd Period
18:52 COL (6-1) - J.T. Miller took a shot from the point which hit an Avalanche defender in front of the net and skipped over Darcy Kuemper and was put home by Nils Hoglander
8:11 COL (7-1)- Cale Makar passed the puck down to Mikko Rantanen who took a quick shot off the chest of Jaroslav Halak and batted out of the air and in the net by J.T. Compher.

Andre Burakovsky, who scored two goals in his previous outing, needs 10 more points to reach 250 for his career and five more points to reach 100 in his time with Colorado... Mikko Rantanen needs 11 more assists to reach 200 for his career... On this day in 2007, Paul Stastny scored twice and had an assist to reach 100 points for his career, and the Avs improved to 9-1-0 on home ice with a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild at Pepsi Center.
ROSTER REPORT
J.T. Compher skated on the top line with Gabriel Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen as Nathan MacKinnon was unavailable. Alex Newhook was recalled from the American Hockey League affiliate Colorado Eagles on Tuesday and played in tonight's matchup.
INJURY UPDATE
Nathan MacKinnon did not play in the contest and will be out give-or-take three weeks on a lower-body injury. Cale Makar rejoined the group for practice after sustaining an upper-body injury on Oct. 30. Valeri Nichushkin played in his first game back after being out with an upper-body injury he sustained on Oct. 13. Devon Toews skated in his second game of the season after recovering from an upper-body injury earlier this season. Martin Kaut is still being evaluated on a week-to-week basis with an upper-body injury. Stefan Matteau continues to be out for weeks rehabbing a lower-body injury he suffered on Oct. 16th. Pavel Francouz remains on a week-to-week basis.

The Colorado Avalanche will host the San Jose Sharks for their first matchup of the season Saturday, Nov. 13 at Ball Arena. This night will also be dedicated to celebrating Hockey Fights Cancer.
