RECAP

The Colorado Avalanche suffered a 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Friday night at Rogers Place Arena.
Valeri Nichushkin scored twice, while Nathan MacKinnon also scored in the loss. Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves on 26 shots.

THE SCORING:
1st Period:
8:29 - COL 1, EDM 0- Valeri Nichushkin converted on a 3-on-1 rush as Bowen Byram sent him a feed and beat Smith with a one timer in the slot. Cale Makar also notched an assist.
2nd Period:
2:41 - EDM 1, COL 1 -Evander Kane tucked in a wraparound past Kuemper to put the Oilers on the board. Connor McDavid picked up the assist.
4:03 - EDM 2, COL 1 -Evan Bouchard doubled up Edmonton's lead as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Kris Russell registered assists.
4:18 - COL 2, EDM 2 - Colorado ushered an immediate response as Nathan MacKinnon jetted up ice and Valeri Nichushkin wired a shot past Smith to equalize the score 2-2. Andre Burakovsky also notched an assist.
8:19 - EDM 3, COL 2 -Duncan Keith zipped a high-to-low pass for a backdoor tap-in from Evander Kane to return the lead to Edmonton. Kailer Yamamoto also tallied an assist.
14:20 - EDM 4, COL 2 - Evander Kane completed the hat trick as he dangled to the net and jammed the puck past the goal line. Connor McDavid and Brett Kulak collected the assists.
3rd Period:
10:45 - EDM 5, COL 2 -Off a faceoff play, Kailer Yamamoto grabbed a pass and spun - while getting his shot off -to beat Kuemper and extend Edmonton's lead 5-2. Evander Kane and Connor McDavid posted the assists.
18:20 - EDM 5, COL 3 - Nathan MacKinnon trimmed Colorado's lead down 5-2 as he deceptively wired a high wrist shot over Smith. Andre Burakovsky and J.T. Compher recorded the assists.
18:47 - EDM 6, COL 3, ENG - Off a Leon Draisaitl faceoff win, Kris Russell buried a nearly 200-foot shot into Colorado's empty net to give Edmonton a 6-3 lead.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
The Avalanche were 0-for-6 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The Oilers were 0-for-2 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
GOALTENDING BATTLE:
Darcy Kuemper made 21 saves on 26 shots for the Avalanche.
Mike Smith made 34 saves on 37 shots for the Oilers.
NOTEBOOK:
Kuemper 54th start of the season and his record dropped to 36-11-3... Nichushkin scored his 23rd and 24th goals of the season and now extended his career-high point streak to seven games… MacKinnon scored his 32nd goal of the season... Mikko Rantanen missed his second-straight game due to a non-COVID related illness…
