The last time the Avalanche was in Texas, the visitors dominated the final 40 minutes of play. Colorado outshot Dallas 36-22 in the game and 30-16 in the last two periods, but it couldn't completely erase some tough bounces in the opening frame and lost 3-2.
That Nov. 17 contest is just further proof that the Avs need to get off to a good start against a Stars club that is 3-0-1 in its last four games.
"Obviously you look back at the last couple months, when you don't have good starts it's an uphill battle," Landeskog said. "So we got to make sure that we come out and establish a good road game and make sure we're putting pucks in behind them. Offensively, I think we've gotten better and our O-zone time has gotten better and some possession stats, as far as that goes."
The Avalanche's last road contest on Friday at the Chicago Blackhawks was one of the club's best efforts of the season. The squad played an overall solid game, was patient and was able to pull out a come-from-behind 2-1 victory in overtime.
Despite losing the following game at home against the Calgary Flames, Landeskog said the Avs could still build off what they did in Chicago.
"Obviously coming off that last road win in Chicago, we got to follow that up tonight and make sure that we take care of business here on the road and then come home," Landeskog said. "We got to deal with [the home record] when we get there, but tonight make sure that we execute our systems and make sure our effort is there. We know that this is a building that we all love to play in and have had some success in earlier. So come out and do that and I think we'll be good.
Colorado has won four of the last six games at the American Airlines Center and is 12-4-1 in its last 17 meetings versus Dallas.
