Avalanche Signs Jonathan Drouin

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward Jonathan Drouin to a one-year contract for the 2023-24 campaign.

Drouin, 28, recorded 29 points (2g/27a) in 58 games for the Montreal Canadiens this past season. He has spent the last six campaigns with Montreal, totaling 186 points (48g/138a) in 321 games. Since joining the Canadiens for the 2017-18 season, Drouin ranks fourth among all Montreal players in points and second in assists. A first-round selection (third overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2013 NHL Draft, Drouin has collected 281 points (77g/204a) in 485 career NHL contests with Tampa and Montreal. He has added 21 points (6g/15a) in 33 career Stanley Cup Playoff outings.

The 5-foot-11, 198-pound left wing has also skated in 19 career American Hockey League contests with the Syracuse Crunch, totaling 16 points (12g/4a).

Prior to turning pro, Drouin played three seasons for the Halifax Mooseheads in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2011-14, totaling 242 points (77g/165a) in 128 career contests and adding 102 points (34g/68a) in 50 career postseason outings. He was teammates with current Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon for two of his three seasons in Halifax (2011-13).

During the 2012-13 campaign, Drouin collected 105 points (41g/64a) in 49 games, ranking second in the league in points to earn a selection to the QMJHL First All-Star Team and the Michel Briere Trophy as the league's most valuable player. He added a league-best 35 points and 23 assists in 17 postseason contests to win the Guy Lafleur Trophy as the QMJHL's playoff MVP and help Halifax capture the President's Cup as league champions. Drouin also helped Halifax capture the Memorial Cup, recording nine points (1g/8a) in four games and was named the CHL Player of the Year.

In his final QMJHL season in 2013-14, Drouin set career highs with 108 points and 79 assists, leading all players in assists to be named to the QMJHL First All-Star Team for the second consecutive year.

The Ste-Agathe, Quebec, native represented his country at the IIHF World Junior Championship in 2013 and 2014. He served as an alternate captain at the 2014 tournament, recording nine points (3g/6a) in seven games to finish second on the team in points and tied for first in assists. Drouin suited up for Team North America at the World Cup of Hockey in 2016, finishing with one point (1g) in three contests.
