Sharks Foundation Donates Record $1.8 Million During 2016-17 Season

During the 2016-17 season, the Sharks Foundation donated a record-breaking $1.8 million to the community through its Giving Campaign. Each month the Foundation focused on different causes including Healthy Living, Hockey Fights Cancer, Season of Giving, Military Appreciation, Education, Character Development and Environmental Awareness, which featured key activation with Sharks players, coaches, alumni, executives, partners and S.J. Sharkie. In addition, the Sharks Foundation's 50/50 Raffle dedicated more than $500,000 to non-profits across the Bay Area in its inaugural year.

Sharks Foundation's 50/50 Raffle Dedicates More Than $500,000 to the Community During the 2016-17 Season

During the inaugural season of the Sharks Foundation's 50/50 Raffle, $528,425 was donated to beneficiaries in the Bay Area, impacting thousands of youth and families in need. 

Beginning with the preseason, the Foundation sold raffle tickets during each home game at SAP Center with jackpots combining for more than $1 million by the end of Round One of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and averaging more than $20,000 a night.

Throughout the season, 50/50 Raffle beneficiaries fell in line with the Sharks Foundation's Season of Giving campaign, including donating $10,647.59 for Pancreatic Cancer Center Action Network during Hockey Fights Cancer month, $10,340 for Salvation Army Silicon Valley during the Season of Giving, $15,852.50 for Operation: Care and Comfort during Military Appreciation month, $8,715 for LGBTQ Youth Space during Character Development month and $9,340 for the San Francisco Zoo during Environmental Awareness month.

Sharks Foundation Donates $76,000 to Habitat for Humanity

Will Dedicate Funds to Renovation Projects in East Palo Alto and Flood Victims in San Jose

Aligning with its Environmental Awareness campaign, the Sharks Foundation raised $76,000 for Habitat for Humanity through various fundraising efforts during Round 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

At each home game during the playoffs, the Sharks Foundation hosted its 50/50 Raffle, which featured a special ticket price of 80 numbers for $40. Through 50/50 Raffle sales, the Foundation generated more than $66,000 for Habitat for Humanity.

Sharks Foundation Promotes Environmental Awareness in April

$127,000 Was Donated to Help the Cause

In April, the Sharks Foundation celebrated its Environmental Awareness initiative, leaving its mark everywhere from the beach to the heart of downtown San Jose. 

To kick-off the campaign, the Foundation partnered with Plantronics and Save Our Shores to host a clean-up at Cowell Beach in Santa Cruz on April 5.

Throughout the afternoon, nearly 50 volunteers collected more than 60 pounds of trash, while recycling five pounds of items collected just off the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. At the conclusion of the clean-up, the Foundation presented Save Our Shores with a check for $5,000 to continue its efforts in protecting and preserving the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.

More Than $237,600 Donated to Goals For Kids Program

Third Season of Program Will See Donations from Sharks Foundation along with program partners, Taube Philanthropies, the Koret Foundation and SWENSON

SAN JOSE, CA - The Sharks Foundation announced that it will donate more than $237,600, along with program partners, Taube Philanthropies, the Koret Foundation and SWENSON, during the third season of the Goals for Kids Program. The announcement was made at a check presentation during yesterday's San Jose Sharks game at SAP Center.

"We are proud to stand alongside Taube Philanthropies, the Koret Foundation and SWENSON to support high-performing local non-profits through the third season of Goals for Kids," said Heather Hooper, Sharks Foundation Manager.

Adapted Physical Ed Students Skate for Free for Week

Sharks Foundation Welcomed More than 500 Differently Abled Students from Across the Bay Area to Skate at Solar4America

The Sharks Foundation recently welcomed more than 500 differently abled students from across the Bay Area to Solar4America Ice at San Jose for a week of free ice skating.

The group of students was organized through adapted physical education teachers in San Mateo County, who have hosted an annual skate program for the last 10 years.

"It started out with one to two days of skating per year," Angeline Sheridan, Adapted Physical Education Specialist, Palo Alto Unified School District said. "There was such a huge demand, that the skating program grew to 10 days of skating last year alone."

Nearly $58,000 Donated to San Jose Flood Victims

Funding Made Possible Through the 50/50 Raffle, In-Game Auction items and Donations

SAN JOSE, CA - The Sharks Foundation announced today that it will donate nearly $58,000 to the San Jose Flood Victims Relief Fund through the Silicon Valley Community Foundation to support non-profit organizations providing immediate and long-term relief and recovery assistance to flood victims. 

The donation was made possible through the generous support of San Jose Sharks fans that made individual donations or purchased 50/50 Raffle tickets at three Sharks home games on March 9-12. The Sharks Foundation also made a $20,000 donation and contributed funds from one in-game auction item during each of those nights. The Foundation will continue to donate funds from one auction item per night at home games through the remainder of the 2016-17 regular season.

Students Have Fun Learning the Physics of Skating

The Innovation on Ice Activity Kicked-off at The Tech Museum of Innovation in Partnership with the Sharks Foundation and SAP

SAN JOSE, CA - Kids and their families from across the Bay Area, along with volunteers from the Sharks Foundation, SAP and Sharks alumni Rob Zettler, experimented with physics and ice skates in a new activity called Innovation on Ice, which kicked-off at The Tech Museum of Innovation on Wednesday, March 8. The engineering design challenge was created by The Tech as part of a partnership with the Sharks Foundation and SAP to give more people access to STEM education and sports-themed science activities. 

"We are thrilled at this opportunity to inspire students and families with science and technology in a fun and interactive way," Heather Hooper, Sharks Foundation Manager said. "We believe this activity will encourage a new generation of Sharks fans to see themselves as leaders whether playing hockey or in engineering fields."

$61,300 Donated to High School's Digital Arts Program

Sharks Foundation and SAP Help Expand Downtown College Prep's Digital Arts Program at El Primero High School

SAN JOSE, CA - The Sharks Foundation and SAP announced today the donation of $61,300 to Downtown College Prep's El Primero High School, which will fund its Digital Arts Program.

Brand new iMac computers, wireless keyboards, Nikon cameras, tablets and pens, and a laser printer were delivered to El Primero courtesy of the Sharks Foundation and SAP, which focused its funds on education during the month of February. Representatives from the Sharks Foundation and SAP joined students, as they participated in various Digital Arts Program activities.
