The Senators’ depleted defence corps will face another tough task on Saturday afternoon as the Minnesota Wild come to town, though one that they could get help for.

Speaking to media ahead of the game, Travis Green said that there’s a possibility Jake Sanderson would make his return to give that group a much-needed boost, four weeks after being injured in Seattle.

“He’s close,” said Green, who added that the decision will be made to play either Jorian Donovan or Sanderson ahead of puck drop.

Already missing Thomas Chabot, Nick Jensen, Dennis Gilbert, and Carter Yakemchuk, Tyler Kleven was the latest Senator added to that injury report when he took a puck to the face in the Sens’ win Thursday over Buffalo.

In their absence, Jordan Spence has stepped up, logging a career-high 30:48 of time on ice in that win.

“Yeah, he’s been awesome, you know, he’s so smart with the puck, he’s so shifty, so mobile, and you know, for a smaller guy, he can defend and lay the body pretty well,” said Dylan Cozens after that game.

“He’s stepped up tremendously for us, and he’s just such a great guy in the room too, so, you know, really happy for him.”

The Senators are looking to hold onto a playoff spot, with Detroit, Columbus, and Philadelphia hot on their tail in the wild card race. That challenge stiffens against a Wild team who just clinched their position.

“Our start’s always important, especially in our building, we want to come out fast, and we’re going to need it against a good team,” said Green.

Loose Pucks

The Senators earned their 39th victory of the 2025-26 season with a 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday evening. Ottawa’s next win will be their 40th of the season – which would give them consecutive seasons of 40+ wins for the first time since 2007-08. (The Senators won 45 games last season).

Jordan Spence played a career-high 30:48 during Thursday’s 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres. It was the second-highest ice time for a Sens defenceman this season, trailing only the 30:53 Thomas Chabot logged against the NY Islanders on March 19. Spence is the 16th defenceman in franchise history to hit the 30-minute mark in a regular season game.

Cameron Crotty made his Senators debut on Thursday night against the Buffalo Sabres. It was Crotty’s third career NHL game — all with three different teams. Crotty is just the fifth player in NHL history to play his first three career games with three different teams.

Shane Pinto’s empty net goal on Thursday allowed him to reach the 40-point plateau this season. Pinto is the seventh Ottawa player to reach that mark this season. And it’s only the fifth time in franchise history the Senators have had at least seven different players reach the 40-point mark.

The Faceoff

The Minnesota Wild clinched a playoff berth with their win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. The Wild will travel to Detroit after the game for another 1 p.m. game on Sunday.

The Sens dropped their first meeting with the Wild 3-2, but won both games last season, 3-1 at Minnesota and 6-0 at home. Sanderson had a goal and three assists in that win, while Drake Batherson and Tim Stützle each had three points.
