Both Mark Borowiecki (day-to-day) and Zack Smith (about a week) have been ruled out for tonight's game and as a result the Sens have recalled forward Chris DiDomenico from Belleville.
Sens head coach Guy Boucher hinted at the roster move yesterday but initially wasn't sure who would get the call.
"I was waiting to see what was going to happen with Smith and we needed to wait until today to figure that out how long he'd be out," said Boucher after yesterday's skate. "He won't be available tomorrow so we'll have to call up somebody."
DiDomenico leads the Belleville Senators in scoring so far this season with 5 points (3G, 2A) in 4 games played and is looking to translate that momentum in his first game with the big club this year.
"I just went down there and worked hard," said DiDomenico about his quick start in Belleville. "The bounces have been going my way and I've been getting a lot of ice-time to prove that I can play down there."
Prior to a stint overseas in Switzerland, DiDomenico was initially draft by tonight's opponent just over 10 years ago. The Maple Leafs selected DiDomenico in the 6th round of the 2007 NHL Draft and the 28-year old Toronto native is looking forward to finally being a part of the Battle of Ontario.
"It's probably one of the biggest rivalries in sports," DiDomenico shared with the media this morning. "Everyone lives for Ottawa vs. Toronto so to be a part of it tonight is a going to be a great accomplishment for me."
