The Set-up
Ottawa (4-14-1) has dropped its last two decisions, both to Toronto, as they head home to start a five-game homestand.
Montreal (9-5-2) were beaten 5-3 by the Maple Leafs Saturday as they occupy the fourth and final playoff spot in the North Division.
Ottawa is seeking its second home win of the season as they are currently 1-5-1 at home. On the contrary, Montreal are tied for the most road points in the NHL this season with 14 and have not lost away from home in regulation this season (6-0-2). Their 33 road goals are the second most in the NHL.
Both teams love to shoot the puck with Montreal leading the NHL with 34.1 shots a game while the Sens rank fourth at 31.9.
Roster notes
There are a number of unknowns tonight for the Sens' lineup with head coach D.J. Smith saying Thomas Chabot is a game-time decision while adding a few of his forwards have the same designation.
"We won't know until later this afternoon," Smith said on confirming his lineup.
If Chabot can't play, it'd be the second straight game he's missed after not playing Thursday in Toronto. He did participate in today's morning skate, however.
Smith also confirmed that Matt Murray starts tonight for the Sens.
Previous history
Tonight is only the third meeting between the two teams this year with each team claiming a victory each. The road side has won both contests with Ottawa winning 3-2 on Feb. 4 in Montreal before losing 2-1 at home two days later.
The teams will meet again Tuesday.
Who to watch
Connor Brown has begun to collect points for the Sens as he has four in his last four games, two of which were goals. The Toronto native has four goals and six assists this season with his 10 points being tied for the second most on the team.
Brown's 18:19 a night leads all Senators forwards.
