Kevin Stevens was arguably the most dominant power forward of his era, hitting the 40-goal mark four-straight seasons between 1990-94. At the height of his prime between the 1990-95 campaigns, Stevens’ 205 goals ranked fourth among all NHL players during that five-year stretch. An immovable force at the net front, Stevens is one of four skaters in NHL history to record 50 goals and 200 penalty minutes during a single season in ’91-92. That year, Stevens finished runner-up to Mario Lemieux in the NHL scoring race with 123 points, still the second highest single-season point total by a left wing in NHL history.

Stevens’ charismatic bravado inspired the Penguins’ comeback from a 2-0 deficit in the 1991 Conference Final against the Boston Bruins. After guaranteeing four-straight victories, Stevens backed up his words by scoring in the next three games, including two goals and three assists in Game 5 at the Boston Garden. Stevens’ 17 goals and 33 points in the ‘91 playoffs both remain NHL single-season playoff records by a left wing. His 17 goals are a Penguins record for a single playoff year. Among all NHL players, only Lemieux scored more playoff goals and points than Stevens between the ’91 and ’95 postseasons.

Penguins Hall of Fame Class of 2025: Kevin Stevens

As a player who will go down in hockey history as one of the greatest power forwards of his generation, Kevin Stevens played an integral part in helping bring the first two Stanley Cups to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It’s been quite a year for Stevens, now a pro scout for the Penguins. On Dec. 4, 2024, ‘Artie’ received the honor of being inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. And now, he will be put into the reinstated Pittsburgh Penguins Hall of Fame, along with Ron Francis, Scotty Bowman and Eddie Johnston. They were inducted on Oct. 25 vs. Columbus.
