
How do I get invited to Auditions?
Following the submission of your application, the Oilers will assess each applicant based on all parts of their application. Not all applicants will be invited to Auditions. Those receiving an invite to attend, will be emailed their invitation, with further steps required. No walk ups will be allowed at this year's Auditions.
Where and when are the Orange & Blue Ice Crew Auditions?
Auditions will take place on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Rogers Place.
What is the timeframe for Auditions?
Audition registration begins at 9AM and closes at 9:45AM. Anyone arriving after 9:45AM will not be permitted to participate in Auditions. For those Auditioning as an off-ice member, the audition day will wrap up following lunch at 12:30PM. For those Auditioning as a skater, the final round of skating will conclude at 3PM.
Do I need to pay to attend Auditions?
We require a $20 payment following the receipt of your invitation to confirm your spot at the Auditions. With your application, all members will also receive lunch on the day of Auditions and an OBIC Audition t-shirt.
What happens at the Auditions?
Our auditions are interactive and fun! This is your chance to show us your personality, athleticism, and enthusiasm for the role. You will be taking part in a variety of off-ice interactive tasks, icebreakers, and improv activities to start the Audition process!
Following the off-ice portion of auditions, the skating assessments will take place featuring skill testing and skating circuits to best showcase your skating abilities. New this season, there will be two rounds of skating evaluations, where only those advancing to round two will be considered for a skating role. Any hopefuls moving forward to the interviews will be informed in the days following auditions.
What happens after Auditions?
Those applications that receive interviews will be notified via email in the days following Auditions. Interviews are conducted in an in-person, group setting. Following interviews, all applicants will be notified on whether they were successful in being selected to join the Orange & Blue Ice Crew or not.
Do I have to Audition as a skater?
Not all members of the Orange & Blue Ice Crew will be required to be on the ice, as this team is also responsible for off-ice activations throughout Rogers Place and the surrounding community. Applicants auditioning as a skater do not need be professionally trained (hockey, figure, etc.), but a strong skating ability will be considered a strong asset. Those joining the team as a skater will also be required to work off-ice and community shifts.
Please note: Orange & Blue Ice Crew members are required to wear hockey skates when performing duties on ice. So, those accustomed to wearing figure skates are strongly encouraged to practice adjusting to hockey skates before the Auditions.
How old do I have to be to attend the Auditions?
You must be at least 18 years of age as of July 1, 2026.
What should I wear to the Auditions?
Everyone should come to auditions in fitted, comfortable, athletic-style apparel such as shorts, t-shirt, tank top, and athletic footwear.
How should I wear my hair and makeup for the Auditions?
Hair and makeup along with consistently groomed appearance are an essential part of this role. We ask that the guys have their hair styled along with "groomed" facial hair, if not cleanly-shaven. Girls are highly encouraged to arrive to auditions with full makeup and styled hair. Hair should be worn loose and styled but not hiding your face. No hats are allowed during the auditions. Please note that your picture will be taken during registration.
What do I need to bring to the Auditions?

- Skates (if you are auditioning in the skating portion)
- Sweater or jacket to have while in waiting area
- Reminder: we will provide a t-shirt for everyone auditioning
Can I bring friends and family to watch the Auditions?
No. Auditions will be closed to public viewing.
Is the Orange and Blue Ice Crew a co-ed Team?
Yes! We welcome all genders to audition for their chance to be a part of the Orange and Blue Ice Crew. Roles of all members are very similar no matter your gender.
Is being a member of the Orange & Blue Ice Crew a full-time job? What is the time commitment?
Being a member of the Orange & Blue Ice Crew is not a full-time job. Orange & Blue Ice Crew members should plan for 12-25 hours of work per week on average. It is required that OBIC members have a flexible schedules and have 75% availability for all home games. We also require commitment and willingness to pick up event and community appearances throughout the season on top of Home Games.
Orange & Blue Ice Crew members are expected to be at the arena fully game ready a minimum of 2.5 hours prior to puck drop (not all members work every game). Hours will vary based on the Edmonton Oilers event and hockey schedule.
Do Orange & Blue Ice Crew members get paid?
Yes. This is not only a fun team to be a part of but also a paying part-time job! Orange & Blue Ice Crew members are paid an hourly rate for all games, events and community appearances worked.
Do Orange & Blue Ice Crew members get to meet/hang out with the team/players?
Absolutely not. As with most professional teams across the various leagues there are very strict rules and regulations prohibiting fraternization with the team, players, coaches, and officials. There is a zero tolerance policy in place.
What makes a good Orange & Blue Ice Crew member? What is the hiring committee looking for?
The hiring team is looking for new members who encompass all of the following traits.
An outgoing personality, great energy, and positive attitude. We are looking for you to showcase your individual personality and carry that enthusiasm for the Oilers out to the thousands of fans in attendance each night.
With both on-ice and off-ice shifts strong teamwork and communication skills are necessary for fan interaction, mascot handling and community events. You will always be working with different team members.
Professionalism, poise, and a consistent work ethic are essential in our fast-paced, ever-changing, live entertainment environment.
Confidence on-camera and on-ice in front of 18,000+ fans.
Reliable: Not only is punctuality key but Orange & Blue Ice Crew members receive instructions and are trusted to complete tasks independently. The ability to troubleshoot situations and make changes on the fly are essential to your role. We also require all our members to work 75% of the games along with picking up event shifts throughout the season.
Approachable: Greeting fans upon arrival to Rogers Place is a very important part of your role. You should feel comfortable initiating conversation, taking part in and explaining interactive contests to fans. La Bamba Starts with You.
