Connor McDavid scored, and Mikko Koskinen made 31 saves for Edmonton (13-11-2). It is the third time this season the Oilers have won three straight games. They do not have a four-game winning streak.
"I think guys believe in each other and are playing the right way," McDavid said. "When you are not making the mistakes and shooting yourself in the foot and can keep yourselves in games and find a way to win, that's how you put a run together."
William Karlsson scored, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 32 saves for Vegas (14-13-1). The loss ended the Golden Knights' five-game winning streak.
"We battled hard, we were one shot away from tying it out there," Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant said. "It was a good hockey game, both teams played pretty well. It was a low-scoring, tight hockey game and we had a chance to tie it at the end."
McDavid scored at 6:11 of the first period to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead. The Oilers captain gathered the puck at center ice, skated around Golden Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb down the left wing, cut to the net and lifted a shot over Fleury.
"I looked at the shots [to that point], they were 9-1 and we had some good chances and Koskinen made a couple of good saves," Gallant said. "That's what Connor does, he has unbelievable speed and he picks up a loose puck in the neutral zone and he's tough to stop and he finished it with a pretty good move."
Karlsson tied it 1-1 at 12:17 of the second period, extending his goal streak to four games. He collected the puck in slot, which had bounced of the stick of Oilers defenseman Oscar Klefbom in front and slid it past Koskinen.
The Golden Knights were playing the third of a three-game road trip.
"I don't think legs were a problem tonight, we controlled a lot of the play," Golden Knights forward Reilly Smith said. "They got a lot of shots on their power play but we had a chance to tie that game up and definitely win. I don't think conditioning is a problem in this one."
In the third, Spooner took a pass out of the corner from Jujhar Khaira and one-timed a shot past Fleury after Ty Rattie forced Golden Knights forward Cody Eakin to turn the puck over while circling behind his net.
"It was a close game," Fleury said. "There were a couple of breaks here and there on their part for their goals, but other than that I thought it was a pretty solid game."
