And while reaction on social media came pouring in from other players, teams and some famous fans, even the Capitals official account couldn't believe it at first.

Former Capitals shared in the victory that was 43 seasons in the making.

Plenty of current NHL players also weighed in on the team's first Cup in franchise history, with a small sample represented here.

And, of course, sports teams from Washington D.C. showed some pride.

Wonder Woman also couldn't help but marvel at the Capitals accomplishment.

Rap stars Wale, a Capitals fan, and Lil Wayne, who counts Alex Ovechkin among his friends, shared congratulations.

Despite being a Vegas Golden Knights, Washington Nationals all-star Bryce Harper showed no hard feelings for Braden Holtby and his squad.

The Golden Knights, who completed an amazing inaugural season, also tweeted a hat tip.
