"It was a little scrambly game," Islanders coach Doug Weight said. "But we kept fighting and it was good to see [Ladd] get the winner.
"We had to weather some storms. I think they put a lot of pucks on the net and they had some pretty good power play looks, but [we] managed to hold on."
Jaroslav Halak made 33 saves for his first victory since a 50-save shutout against the New York Rangers on Feb. 15.
"Both of our goalies have done a great job battling night in, night out," Ladd said. "A lot of nights we don't make it easy on them, especially early tonight when they had a lot of Grade A chances."

Matt Duchene and Bobby Ryan each had a goal and two assists, Erik Karlsson scored and Mike Condon made 27 saves for the Senators (26-39-11), who lost their sixth straight game for the third time this season.
Ottawa has allowed at least four goals in each of its past five games.
"It's frustrating," Duchene said. "Even though the points don't mean anything right now, you want to win games and it's disappointing to play as well as we did tonight and give up four and only score three."
Nelson gave the Islanders a 3-2 lead with a wrist shot at 18:41 of the second period.
Ryan tied it 3-3 at 15:25 of the third period when his shot deflected off Brandon Davidson's stick and over Halak's glove.
Lee gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead at 6:15 of the first period when he scored off a John Tavares rebound on the power play. It was Lee's 39th goal.
Duchene had Jean-Gabriel Pageau's one-timer from the slot go off his shin pad on the power play at 12:54 to tie it 1-1.
The Senators took a 2-1 lead at 14:48 when Karlsson one-timed a drop pass from Duchene at the right face-off dot.
Beauvillier tied it 2-2 at 1:23 of the second period when he one-timed a pass from Mathew Barzal.
