Binnington pulled from Game 6 for Blues against Canucks

Jordan Binnington started for then was pulled by the St. Louis Blues after allowing four goals to the Vancouver Canucks in a 6-2 loss in Game 6 of the Western Conference First Round at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Friday.

The Blues, the defending Stanley Cup champions, were eliminated with the loss.

Binnington allowed three goals in the first 8:06 of the second period and was removed with St. Louis losing 4-0.

Binnington started in place of Jake Allen, who entered at that point. Allen started the previous three games after Binnington started and lost the first two of the series.

Jay Beagle scored on Binnington 3:45 into the first period, before Antoine Roussel (2:09), Troy Stetcher (6:49) and Brock Boeser (8:06) made it 4-0 in the second period.

Binnington allowed four goals on 18 shots; he allowed nine goals on 47 shots in Games 1 and 2. Allen won Games 3 and 4, allowing three goals on 64 shots, before he allowed four goals on 30 shots in Game 5. He allowed one goal on six shots, to Tyler Motte with 6:41 left in the third period, and Motte scored an empty-net goal with 50 seconds left.

Binnington was 0-5-0 with a 4.72 goals-against average and an .851 save percentage this postseason.

Last season, he helped the Blues win their first Stanley Cup championship, going 16-10 with a 2.46 GAA and .914 save percentage in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He was 3-0 with a .965 save percentage (three goals on 86 shots) when the Blues faced elimination.
