6-11-22 Community Hero

TAMPA BAY - In honor and celebration of Pride Month, the Tampa Bay Lightning honored Metro Inclusive Health as the Lightning Community Hero this evening during the first period of tonight's game against the New York Rangers. Metro Inclusive Health received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, presented by Jabil.

Metro Inclusive Health is an organization that provides quality health and wellness services that are inclusive, relevant, supportive, and benefit all of the diverse people in our community. They go above and beyond healthcare services, providing social activities and classes, support groups, counseling and more. The work they do supports more than 5,000 individuals per year.
The grant tonight will be used to support Metro Inclusive Health to continue to fulfill its mission. The money will specifically be allocated to their LGBTQ+ Youth programming, which supports individuals throughout Tampa Bay who identify as LGBTQ+, including allies. This creates a safe space for social meet-ups and facilitated and peer-led support groups. This funding will enable a more robust advertising campaign and help with staffing costs. The overall objective of the program is to support youth and provide a place for young people to be their authentic selves in a judgement free atmosphere.
Metro Inclusive Health became the 500th Lightning Community Hero since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the Lightning Community Hero program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through tonight's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $26.1 million to more than 600 unique nonprofits in the Greater Tampa Bay area. During the summer of 2021, the Viniks announced the community hero program will give away another $10 million over the next five seasons.
