One: When the Scoresheet is Just Part of the Story

Forward Tye Kartye and his fellow rookie linemates, Ryan Winterton and Logan Morrison, have played strong shifts and overall games this week. Dave Hakstol said as much when asked if a mistake, such as a giveaway on one of the shorthanded Anaheim goals, is looked at disapprovingly. Hakstol said you have to look at what the group has done before and after the mistake. He pointed out the rookie line was buzzing all night and among the best performers. And, of course, Kartye scored the game-winner later in the third period.

Hakstol called out Kartye as a key player in Thursday’s win, including the goal and his drawing four Ducks penalties, especially angering young forward Trevor Zegras.

“Karts played a good hockey game and he ends up scoring a big goal for us,” said Hakstol. “What I liked most of all, he's had some good opportunities. If you look over the last few games, there are too many pucks missing the net. Tonight, he just got a shot and put it on the net. Good things happen when you do that. He was a valuable player, he played hard. He drew a lot of attention out there.

“He's one of our one of the guys up front that consistently plays a hard, heavy game and plays a straight-line game. He’s still growing as a player, still learning to find his spots and pick his spots.”

Heading into the last game of the month, Seattle Kraken Alternate Captain Jordan Eberle & Head Coach Dave Hakstol speaks to the media.

Two: Streak Time

The two-weekday wins have revived scoring for Seattle and set up some streaks: With a stick tap to colleague De’Aira Anderson, here are some encouraging stats: The Kraken have five skaters entering Saturday’s Stars game with a point streak of two or more games:

Jordan Eberle has notched three points (two goals, one assist) in his last three games. Jamie Oleksiak, who has looked particularly creative and impactful on offensive rushes over more than a handful of recent games, is riding a three-game assist streak, and don’t be surprised if he scores against his ex-teammates, with whom he reached the 2020 Stanley Cup Final. Jared McCann (four assists) and Matty Beniers (two goals, two assists) have gone four-count in the last pair of games. Justin Schultz has a two-game assist streak dating back to March 26.

More from Dee: Eberle is one goal shy of scoring 300 NHL goals and one point this side of 700 NHL points. When he reaches the milestones, he'll be the second and third skater, respectively, from the 2008 NHL Draft class to do so. Matty Beniers is two points shy of 100 career NHL points. When he reaches the milestone, he'll be the sixth Kraken skater to register 100 points with the team (remember, he only played ten games in Year 1). Beniers and Dallas’ Wyatt Johnston both have 98 career points and are competing to be the first player from their draft class to reach the 100-point mark.

Three: Know the Foe: Stars 24-9-5 on the Road

The Stars are loaded with scorers. Seven Dallas forwards have scored 20 or more goals, with captain Jamie Benn at 18 for the season. Benn (a long-time favorite of Kraken analyst Eddie Olczyk) scored the game-winning goal Thursday night in Vancouver in a match-up of first-place teams in the Western Conference. He tallied his 900th and 901st NHL points and has scored seven goals in the last half-dozen games. The six-game goal streak matches a career-high, and he has an eight-game point streak going, too. Dallas clinched a playoff berth with the Thursday win and has a shot at winning the President’s Trophy for the best regular-season record in the NHL. The Stars have won six in a row and have posted an 8-2-0 record over the last 10 games, reaching 101 standings points and keeping pace with the New York Rangers (102 points and one game in hand for NYR).
