SEATTLE, Wash. -- August 25, 2021 -- Today, the Seattle Kraken (@SeattleKraken) announce they have signed defenseman Gustav Olofsson to a one-year, two-way contract ($750,000 AAV).
"Gustav is a smart, two-way defenseman," said Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis. "We believe his size and willingness to play with physicality matches the style we want to play and are happy he is joining our blueline."

Olofsson totaled 12 points (one goal, 11 assists) in 24 games last season with the Laval Rocket, the Montreal Canadiens' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. His .50 points per game set a new AHL career high in seasons that he played more than two games, and he tied for third in scoring among Laval's blueliners.
The 26-year-old has recorded 11 assists in 59 NHL games with the Minnesota Wild and the Montreal Canadiens, setting career highs in games played (41) and assists (eight) during the 2017-18 season with Minnesota. The six-foot-two, 199-pound defenseman has totaled 36 hits and 66 blocked shots, including blocking a career high five shots on Nov. 30, 2017 against the Vegas Golden Knights while playing for the Wild. In 203 career AHL games, Olofsson has scored 11 goals and added 60 assists. He was selected to play in the AHL All-Star Game during the 2015-16 season after totaling 17 points (two goals,15 assists) in 52 games, tying for second among the team's blueliners in scoring. The following year he set AHL career highs in goals (six), assists (18), points (24) and games played (59).
Prior to making his professional debut, Olofsson played one season (2013-14) of collegiate hockey at Colorado College, totaling eight points (four goals, four assists) in 30 games and ranking fourth among the team's defensemen in scoring. He spent the previous two seasons (2011-12 to 2012-13) playing for the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL). He recorded 24 points (two goals, 22 assists) in 66 games with the Gamblers and appeared in four playoff games during the 2013 postseason.
The Boras, Sweden, native won a gold medal while playing for Sweden's national team at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship in Malmo, Sweden. He registered five points (one goal, four assists) in seven games, leading all Swedish blueliners in scoring and leading all defensemen in the tournament in assists. He was originally selected by the Minnesota Wild in the second round (46th overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft.
The Seattle Kraken will play their first game in 48 days on Oct. 12 at Vegas.
