The Vegas Golden Knights (29-15-5) dropped a 5-2 contest to the Detroit Red Wings (26-18-5) on Saturday night at Little Caesars Arena.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
The Red Wings grabbed the 1-0 lead at 5:04 of the first period as Dylan Larkin found the back of the nett. Jake Walman added to the Detroit lead at 7:00 with a slapshot that found the back of the net. The Golden Knights came flying back from the 2-0 deficit as Ivan Barbashev answered 62 seconds later, diving to bury the puck in the twine. Alec Martinez fired a shot from the point that found Paul Cotter's stick for a deflection over the left pad of Lyon to tie the game at two 10:55 into the opening frame. The Red Wings regained the advantage on a Joe Veleno power-play tally to end the five-goal first period. A scoreless second period saw Logan Thompson come up with some huge saves, including a sprawling stop with his left pad on Daniel Sprong on the breakway. Andrew Copp gave the Red Wings the 4-2 lead on the rush at 11:47 of the final frame, before Larkin tallied his second of the night on an empty netter to secure the 5-2 final and a win for Detroit.
