NEWARK, NJ - (February 25, 2022) - The New Jersey Devils will host their annual Black History Month game on Monday, February 28, 2022, when they face off against the Vancouver Canucks for a 7:30 PM ET puck drop at Prudential Center. The team will wear Black History Month-themed warm-up jerseys for the first time in Devils history, which were created in collaboration with Devils' defenseman P.K. Subban.
The warm-up jersey's crest was created to honor and celebrate all the Black players and coaches throughout Devils' history and will feature the phrase "A Movement, Not A Moment." One shoulder will feature a Willie O'Ree patch and on the other shoulder there will be a Hockey Is For Everyone patch. Every player's jersey will have the number 22 on the back to honor Willie O'Ree, and their respective jersey number on the shoulders. Within the jersey numbers, there will be a story highlighting O'Ree's impact on the game and some of the other key Black figures in hockey that he opened the door for. The jerseys will be available for auction beginning Monday, February 28 and will close on Monday, March 7, 2022, and will benefit the Devils Youth Foundation and the P.K. Subban Foundation. Fans can bid on the jerseys at

"This is a very special moment with the Devils doing this jersey for Black History Month and I'm so happy that the organization and League has given us an opportunity to put this together," said Subban. "When players are celebrated now, that has come on the shoulders of those before us, like Willie O'Ree. These moments are reflective of progress and change. The game will get to a place where it isn't just about the Black players, the Black individuals who work in the sport, to have to speak out. The real sign of change is when the Black players and individuals don't have to say anything and we will get there."
Every player will wear a helmet decal during the game that will showcase the "Celebrating Black History" mark. A limited number of t-shirts, stemming from the warm-up jersey crest's design, will be available for sale through the Devils Youth Foundation website. Proceeds from the t-shirt sales will also benefit the Devils Youth Foundation and P.K. Subban Foundation. Fans can view the t-shirts at
