The Avalanche defeated the Blues in five games behind Joe Sakic's eight points (four goals, four assists) and Milan Hejduk's seven points (three goals, four assists). The squads have gone to battle in just one other postseason tilt, when the Avs earned a 2-1 win in the first contest of the round robin in the Stanley Cup Qualifiers last year. Nazem Kadri tallied the game-winning goal with 0.1 seconds left in the final frame.
In the regular season, the teams met eight times this year and Colorado held a 5-3-0 record and 3-1-0 mark at Ball Arena. The Avs fell in the first contest of the season to the Blues 4-1 on Jan. 13, but proceeded to win five straight matchups, including an 8-0 rout on Jan. 15. Despite winning the season series, the Avalanche dropped its final two meetings with the Blues from April 24-26 to close out the eight-game set. Nathan MacKinnon was the leading scorer for Colorado versus the Blues on the campaign, recording 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in eight games--tied for his most against a single opponent this season--while Cale Makar ranked second on the club with two goals and eight assists.
