Reading Is Cool presented by Druva is a free and unique literacy program focused on K-5 grade classrooms in the Bay Area.
The program is designed for individual classrooms and runs from October through April, parallel to the San Jose Sharks regular season. The best feature of the program is that it is easy to integrate and teachers can make it fit their class' needs.
Due to COVID-19, all aspects of the program will be digital, downloadable tools for teachers and students to print at home or at school.
Every teacher who registers will be provided DIGITAL:
Students track the number of pages they read each month on printable Student Reading Logs or on this electronic Student Reading Log. Teachers then report their class' total pages read each month. For the individual awards (certificates), teachers can select the student(s) each month they feel is most deserving based on number of pages, minutes, or books read, or can base the decision on most improved or greatest effort. Teachers can submit one student each month to be featured on the Sharks webpage.
Along the way there are other exciting elements to the program including virtual classroom visits from mascot S.J. Sharkie, links to view Celebrity Story Hours, and the opportunity to unlock special bookmarks each month!
Be sure to submit your classroom's total pages read each month to unlock that month's special bookmark! Teachers that submit pages read will be emailed the bookmark artwork each month to keep your students excited about reading!
