The Detroit Red Wings are proud to host the 2nd annual Hockeytown 5K, presented by Powerade and Meijer, an exciting run/walk throughout downtown Detroit to celebrate the opening of Little Caesars Arena and the 2017-18 season.
Join us Sunday, Sept. 10 beginning at 7 a.m. for an amazing 5K run/walk like no other. Come dressed in your favorite Red Wings jerseys and apparel and stroll down an incredible downtown Detroit course that starts and ends near Little Caesars Arena and runs through Joe Louis Arena.

The Iconic Course

Runners and walkers will gather in separate start chutes near the corner of Woodward and Grand River Ave. From there, the 5K will begin at 7 a.m. for runners and 8:00 a.m. for walkers down Woodward Ave. to Jefferson Ave., then under the Cobo Hall tunnel, looping around to Yzerman Dr., before going through Joe Louis Arena from east to west on ice level. After going through The Joe, runners and walkers turn right onto Jefferson towards the Renaissance Center, left on to Woodward Ave. and back to the finish line outside Little Caesars Arena. Then, participants will get to go inside Little Caesars Arena to receive their medal.

Please Note: There will be race photographers on the course and at the finish line to take your picture. These photos will be posted online following the event. You will receive an email with your results immediately after you cross the finish line. You can review the full race results on Racemine.com where you can also view your finish line video that you can share with friends and family.

Frequently Asked Questions

It is 5,000 meters or 3.16 miles. The course is a loop where you travel halfway (2.5K) and return to the finish.

Pin your bib on the front of your shirt on your stomach area. Do not bend the bib as it has two timing chips built in that emit a radio frequency which allows us to keep your time.

All parking lots and garages near Little Caesars Arena, Comerica Park and the local area will be available for Hockeytown 5K participants and spectators for a fee.

Race Kit Pickup will take place at Joe Louis Arena during the below dates and times:

  • Friday, Sept. 8 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, Sept. 9 from 12:00 - 8:00 p.m.

You will receive an email with your runner's bib number 2-3 days before race kit pickup. You must provide a valid proof of identification to pick up your race kit. If you are picking up for non-family members, you must bring their registration confirmation number.

NO RACE DAY PICKUP - You must pick up your race kit on Sept. 8 or 9. There is no race day kit pickup.

No. Due to the volume of participants and other factors, strollers will NOT be allowed.

No. Due to the volume of participants, animals will NOT be allowed. However, service dogs will be allowed to aid runners and walkers.

Yes. There is no age limit for the Hockeytown 5K, but strollers are not allowed.

There will be two separate start chutes on Woodward Ave. to begin the Hockeytown 5K.

Runners start at 7:00 a.m.

Walkers start at 8:00 a.m.

Portable restrooms will be accessible around the start area before the race starts.

Dasani water will be available at the halfway point along the course.

Yes, but only on race day after everyone has picked up their shirts.

No. Due to homeland security regulations, we will not be accepting runner's bags. Please leave items in your vehicle.

All participants will receive a finisher's medal when they cross the finish line near Little Caesars Arena.

We will have marshals along the course and vehicles to bring you back to the start line if you cannot--or do not wish to--complete the race.

No. We cannot offer refunds.

There will be four entertainment zones throughout the course, so headphones might not be necessary, but they are allowed.

The Hockeytown 5K will take place rain or shine. We will only cancel or delay the race for severe storms, lightning or catastrophic events.

Yes. A team of race photographers will be on the course and at the finish line to capture the action. All photos will be published to a website for you to access using your bib number. You will be able to download your photo for free, and hard-copy photos will be available for a small fee. Video footage will also be captured throughout the event.

All friends and family can watch at designated spectator areas throughout the course, which will be announced as the event nears.
