The Winnipeg Jets made Morrissey their first-round pick (No. 13) in the 2013 NHL Draft after he had 47 points (15 goals, 32 assists) during his second full season with Prince Albert of the Western Hockey League. The Jets signed the young defenseman on Oct. 3, 2013, but he played for Prince Albert in 2013-14 and had 73 points (28 goals, 45 assists) in 59 games.

Morrissey helped Canada win the gold medal at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship and was named to the First All-Star Team after scoring four points in seven games. He was traded to Kelowna of the WHL on Dec. 10, 2014, and helped them win the league championship and reach the Memorial Cup final.
