Books stir the senses, inspire the imagination and spark a love of reading.
Literacy is a key focus for the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) and the Share a Book program was conceived in order to spark the imaginations of young minds. Books ignite a love reading that can last a lifetime and are essential to lifelong development, yet many children from low-income families have no books, or very few, to call their own.
The Share a Book program provides new books and book bags to Grade 1 students across Northern Alberta and ensures the joy of reading is not limited to a student's financial means. Since the program began, more than 33,400 books have been distributed to over 16,700 students.
