The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation partnered with Habitat for Humanity Edmonton in July 2017, helping fund two homes through a $250,000 donation to the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project. In addition to the financial contribution, the EOCF organized 125 volunteers from the Oilers Foundation, Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG), Oilers Alumni and current Edmonton Oilers players to join Habitat's efforts and work on the homes in Carter Place, where former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Mrs. Carter also spent time building in July 2017.
As part of the ongoing partnership with Habitat for Humanity, an additional 100 volunteers from OEG and the EOCF returned to the construction site on July 26, 2018, and to continue work on homes in Carter Place. Volunteers included OEG CEO & Vice Chair Bob Nicholson, who also hosted community leaders at Habitat's Presidents Build in June 2018.
Since December 2017, 20 families have been presented keys to their homes at Carter Place. When Carter Place is completed, there will be 58 families with over 200 children living in the community.
