GLENDALE --The streak is over.
For nearly six years, the Coyotes earned at least one point every time they played the Edmonton Oilers.
That run ended on Wednesday night when Edmonton jumped to a 3-0 lead and held on for a 3-2 win at Gila River Arena, in a game that featured 81 penalty minutes and some bad blood.

"We've had some good breaks against this team for a long time," Head Coach Dave Tippett said. "Breaks went against us tonight ... It was a real choppy game because of power plays and penalties and 4-on-4. There's not a lot of rhythm to the game, but you still have to find some ways to capitalize on some chances."
The Coyotes held Connor McDavid, the NHL's top point producer, to zero points. Instead, Edmonton's fourth-line grinders and energy guys - Matt Hendricks, Mark Letestu and Zack Kassian - created most of the offense (seven points).
"I thought we had a lot of focus on their first and second lines, and we forgot to take care of their third and fourth lines," said defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who scored Arizona's second goal with 6.1 seconds left in the third period.

Center Martin Hanzal, who scored Arizona's first goal at 11:19 of the second period, agreed.
"Anytime you shut down Connor McDavid or (Ryan) Nugent-Hopkins then we have a chance to win the game, but their fourth line was producing tonight."
• Captain Shane Doan played in his 1,499th NHL game, tying Mike Modano for 17th place on the League's all-time game played list. Doan took five shots on goal but could not get career goal No. 400. Oilers goalie Cam Talbot denied Doan that milestone with an acrobatic glove save at 15:04 of the third period.
• The Coyotes were credited with a season-high 49 hits. Fourth-liner Ryan White, who was wearing a microphone for the TV broadcast, led the way with nine.
• Goalie Mike Smith faced just 21 shots, a season-low for a game in which he played the full 60 minutes.

Radim Vrbata, who entered the game leading the Coyotes with 20 points, added two more by assisting on both of Arizona's goals.
• Rookie Jakob Chychrun twice left the game after absorbing hard checks against the boards in front of Edmonton's bench.
Edmonton's Eric Grayba was given a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct penalty for the second hit, which he delivered to Chychrun's head in the third period. Chychrun was required to go through the NHL's concussion protocol after the hit and did not return.
Not liking the hit, defenseman Luke Schenn immediately fought Gryba, and received a two-minute instigator penalty, as well as a five-minute fighting penalty and 10-minute misconduct penalty. He also received some stitches for a cut to the face he received during his bout with Gryba.
• The Coyotes challenged Edmonton's first goal at 8:13 of the first period because they felt Hendricks had interfered with Smith.
Arizona's challenge was denied and its lone timeout forfeited.
"We thought 'Smitty' was held down, but I was told our guy pushed their guy into him," Tippett said. "I don't see that, but that's the way that goes."
