Canucks GM: We're not trading Sedins

Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin will not be asked to waive their no-trade clause this season, Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning said Monday.
Each is entering the final season of a four-year, $28 million contract ($7 million average annual value). The twins turn 37 on Sept. 26.

"We're not moving the Sedins unless they come to me at some point and they say, 'Well, we want to move on,'" Benning told Sportsnet 650 in Vancouver. "When we've talked to them, we're not going to go to them and ask them to waive their no-trade. We're not going to approach them for them to move on to another team."
Daniel and Henrik, selected by Vancouver with the second and third picks in the 1999 NHL Draft, rank near the top in goals, assists, points and games in Canucks history. Henrik is first in points (1,020), assists (783) and games (1,248), and seventh in goals (237). Daniel is first in goals (370) and second in assists (616), points (986) and games (1,225).

"They've been Canucks their whole lives, they love the Vancouver Canucks, they are excited about our young players, and they want to see this thing through with us," Benning said.
Henrik had 50 points (15 goals, 35 assists) in 82 games last season, his fewest in a full season since he had 42 in 2003-04. Daniel had 44 points (15 goals, 29 assists), his fewest since 2002-03 (31 points).
Benning didn't say if this would be their last season in Vancouver, or if the Canucks would offer them a contract beyond the 2017-18 season.
"We haven't gotten to that point yet," he said. "When I talked to them, they want to see how they feel this year, what kind of year they have, how the team performs, and over the course of the year we can approach that with them."
One of the young players Benning was referring to is restricted free agent center Bo Horvat. Benning said the 22-year-old likely will be signed before training camp begins in a few weeks.

"It's going well," Benning said of contract negotiations. "Hopefully, we can get it done here in the next week. ... We made some progress last week, and hopefully this is the week we can get it done."
Horvat led the Canucks in goals (20) and points (52) last season. It was the first time since 2005-06 that the Sedins did not finish first and second in scoring for Vancouver. Horvat, the ninth pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, played in the 2017 NHL All-Star Game.
