GLENDALE -- Coyotes Head Coach Rick Tocchet was not OK settling for a moral victory on Thursday night vs. the Washington Capitals, who beat Arizona, 4-2, at Gila River Arena.
Tocchet expected more from his team, which beat Washington less than a month ago and entered the game with a four-game winning streak. Just hanging with the defending Stanley Cup champs for 55 minutes or so was not enough.

"These are games you've got to win," Tocchet said. "You know what I mean? It's not 'the good ole college try.' It's 2-2 (after two periods), at least go to overtime. I thought we just kind of backed up, and I hate backing up when it's 2-2 ... It's frustrating."
Christian Fischer and Lawson Crouse scored goals for the Coyotes, who led, 1-0 and 2-1. Adin Hill made 25 saves but suffered a defeat for the first time in four starts this season.

Tied 2-2, Andre Burakovsky scored the decisive goal at 15:18 of the third period with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle.
"He just came down the wing and got a good shot off and I got a piece of it with my blocker, but at the end of the day I've got to make that save," Hill said.
Alex Ovechkin added a lengthy empty-net goal with less than three seconds to play.
Tocchet did not pin the loss solely on his rookie goalie, whom the NHL recently named its Second Star of the Week.
"We lost," Tocchet said. "Some guys worked hard tonight ... Four minutes left and they score a goal. We didn't gap up and it was a tough goal. It's just a frustrating game because it's a winnable game. We need somebody to make a play. If we want to be that type of team, we've got to make a play ... It's hard to win in this league so that's why the details have to be there. You have to have details. Stick on puck, go through people, one guy's got to go to the net, shoot the puck. These are details you have to do all the time. It's hard to do and the good teams do that."

Tocchet: 'They Made the Play'

• Fischer scored his goal at 4:48 of the first period, just a few moments after hobbling to the bench after blocking a shot. Derek Stepan set up the tally with a steal and then a nice pass from the right corner. Fischer's shot was Arizona's first on Capitals backup goalie Pheonix Copley.
"They're a really good team," Fischer said. "They can score goals and they just had a little bit of extra push there (in the third period). We're tied 2-2 with five, six minutes left, somehow we've got to just try to find a way to lock it down."

Fischer: '3rd Was a Problem'

• Crouse swept a rebound past Copley to give Arizona a 2-1 lead less than two minutes after Washington had evened the score early in the second period. The goal was Crouse's second in two games. He also scored vs. Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Vinnie Hinostroza played just 6:53 and not after his second shift of the second period. After the game, the team announced he had suffered a lower-body injury.
• Both teams were awarded a penalty shot but neither scored. Richard Panik's shot sailed wide of the net in the second period, and Hill stopped Jakub Vrana's shot with his left blocker in the third. Per NHL.com, it was just the eighth game in NHL history in which each team had a penalty shot.
• Stats that jump off the Event Summary: Stepan won 16 of 20 face-offs, Crouse delivered five hits and Kevin Connauton blocked four shots.
