Different city, team colors, and even a different sport, but the world is about to get another Lemieux wearing No. 66.

Shane Lemieux, the fifth round pick of the New York Giants in the 2020 NFL Draft, will be wearing the same number Hockey Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux made famous with the Pittsburgh Penguins. The two men are not related.

The Giants shared all of the jersey numbers for their rookies on Twitter on Thursday and seeing "Lemieux, 66" was a surprise, but also not surprising.

The 23-year-old is an offensive lineman out of the University of Oregon, where he wore No. 68. There he formed a Lemieux-Crosby connection, Tweet from @Giants: You asked...Rookie jersey numbers ๐Ÿ‘€ pic.twitter.com/l7j4PfjL4B, who is now with the Detroit Lions, where he wears No. 65, not the No. 87 of Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

That could be because the NFL employs number restrictions for players based on position. Only guards, offensive tackles and defensive linemen are permitted to wear numbers from 60 to 79.

So for Shane Lemieux, No. 66 was the obvious way to go.

And the native of Yakima, Washington, could play his first NFL regular-season game against Pittsburgh, with the Giants scheduled to play the Steelers in their season-opener at home on "Monday Night Football" on Sept. 14.
