Martin St Louis Cup win podcast 9.30

Martin St. Louis is a proud alum of the Tampa Bay Lightning and was thrilled to see the team he played most of his NHL career with win the Stanley Cup by defeating the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of the Cup Final on Monday.

St. Louis, who won the Stanley Cup with the Lightning in 2004, played 13 of his 16 NHL seasons with Tamp Bay. He joined the co-hosts Dan Rosen and Shawn P. Roarke on the NHL @TheRink podcast Wednesday to discuss the Lightning's championship run, what made this team special and what it meant to him to see captain Steven Stamkos, a former teammate, raise the Cup.
"You get the goosebumps a little bit when Stammer raise it," St. Louis said. "It definitely takes you back to when you had the chance to raise it. Then you see that locker room party, guys drinking out of the Cup, taking pictures. The camera equipment was much different in 2004], there was no iPhone. I know there were always people taking pictures and you trusted you got your hands on some of them. There were no selfies back then. That's probably a good thing."
St. Louis played a fun game with the co-hosts, trying to answer the question of who would win in a best-of-7 series, if everyone was fresh and healthy, between the 2004 Lightning and the 2020 Lightning.
"I don't know; what rules are we playing under," St. Louis said. "I think if we played in our rules I would give the '04 team a chance because there was not many whistles. If we would play the current rules, I think we would need a long training camp. Based on goaltending alone, I'd love to see Khabi [Nikolai Khabibulin] go against Vasi [
Andrei Vasilevskiy]."
St. Louis also talked about his time playing his final two seasons with the New York Rangers and getting to be teammates with goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who had the final season of his contract bought out by the team Wednesday. Lundqvist will be free to sign with any team when free agency starts Oct. 9.
Rosen and Roarke also discussed the Lundqvist situation and potential suitors for the 38-year-old goalie if he still wants to play in the NHL. They also talked about the Lightning and how they became Stanley Cup champions.
