Jonathan Marchessault set up William Karlsson for the game-winning goal with 42.7 seconds left as the Vegas Golden Knights (5-1-0) topped the Arizona Coyotes (2-3-1), 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Gila River Arena.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
The Golden Knights outshot the Coyotes, 10-4, in the first period, but neither side found the back of the net. Marc-Andre Fleury and Darcy Kuemper kept the nets clear in the second period as well as Arizona and Vegas skated into the third period level at 0-0. With less than a minute to go in the final frame, Alex Tuch dumped the puck into the Arizona zone where Marchessault skated into the loose puck. Marchessault swung it in front to Karlsson who lifted it by Kuemper and in for the dramatic game-winning goal.
