Capitals Fans referees

Most fans go to NHL games to root for their favorite teams and players. But a group came to Capital One Arena in Washington on Wednesday to cheer on the officials.

A large contingent of fans dressed in their best black-and-white attire threw their support behind the four on-ice officials during the Washington Capitals' game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

The group was made up of hockey officials from the Washington metro area. Members brought signs; one said "I (heart) icing." The group was so popular at the game that Slapshot, the Capitals' mascot, donned a referee's jersey and stopped by for a photo.

The fans were inspired when they saw a group of fans cheer the officials during the New York Islanders' home game against the Colorado Avalanche on Nov. 5.
