The 24-year-old forward could have become a restricted free agent after this season.
The Red Wings acquired Fabbri in a trade with the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 6, and he scored 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists) in 52 games for Detroit after scoring one goal in nine games for St. Louis. Two days after the trade, Fabbri scored twice in his first game with the Red Wings, a 4-2 win against the Boston Bruins, becoming the seventh player to score two goals in his Detroit debut.
"From Day One walking into that dressing room [with the Red Wings], the guys were so welcoming and it was easy for me to get comfortable," Fabbri said. "I've been waiting for that opportunity ... to prove that I'm still a good player in this league. And I knew with that opportunity I was going to give it everything that I had and not let it go to waste. I couldn't be happier that it's here in Detroit."
Fabbri, selected by the Blues in the first round (No. 21) of the 2014 NHL Draft, has 104 points (46 goals, 58 assists) in 216 NHL games with the Blues and Red Wings. His best offensive season came as a rookie in 2015-16, when he scored 37 points (18 goals, 19 assists) in 72 games for the Blues, then tied for the St. Louis scoring lead in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with 15 points (four goals, 11 assists) in 20 games.
Knee injuries limited Fabbri to 83 games during the next three seasons and cost him all of 2017-18. He won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019, finishing with six points (two goals, four assists) in 32 regular-season games and scoring one goal in 10 playoff games.
"I'm confident in myself," Fabbri said. "I can only see myself improving and getting better here with this team as we come together as a group and do some good things in the future."
