TORONTO/NEW YORK -- Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry will replace Los Angeles Kings forward Jeff Carter on Team Canada at the World Cup of Hockey 2016, Hockey Canada announced Friday.

Perry, 31, has 330 goals and 664 points in 804 career NHL games. He had 34 goals and 28 assists in 82 regular-season games and four assists in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games last season.

Carter, 31, sustained a lower-body injury while training and is week-to-week, LAKingsInsider.com reported. He had 24 goals and 38 assists in 77 regular-season games, and scored two goals in five playoff games last season.

"I know Jeff wanted to play and represent Canada, and his decision to step aside as they continue to monitor his injury speaks to his character and willingness to put Team Canada's success above all else," Team Canada general manager Doug Armstrong told TSN. "We look forward to seeing him back on the ice when the NHL season resumes."

The World Cup will be played at Air Canada Centre in Toronto from Sept. 17 to Oct. 1.
