Strome scored on a redirection at the left post off a pass from Connor Brown. John Carlson had three assists, and Darcy Kuemper made 36 saves for Washington in its preseason finale (4-1-1). Adam Boqvist had two assists, and Elvis Merzlikins made 28 saves for Columbus, which finished 4-3-1. Anthony Mantha gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead with a redirection in front off a shot by Martin Fehervary at 9:56 of the first period. Patrik Laine tied it 1-1 at 10:37, sweeping in a shot from between the circles, before Yegor Chinakhov gave the Blue Jackets a 2-1 lead on the power play at 14:58, his sixth goal of the preseason. Alex Ovechkin's power-play goal at 19:47 tied it 2-2. Sean Kuraly put Columbus ahead 3-2 at 3:25 of the second period, but Nic Dowd tied it 3-3 at 8:34.
