The day began bright and early when friends, family and neighbors gathered outside the O'Malley house to play street hockey, get their faces painted and enjoy some of Philadelphia's signature crab fries from the Chickie's & Pete's truck. Inside, the wives were busy putting the finishing touches in every room and making sure every detail was perfect, Doreen Holmgren, wife of Flyers President Paul Holmgren, said, "We help a family who is suffering and going through a lot of heartache, but they help us because it gives us a sense of purpose and lets us appreciate all that we have."

Over a six week period the house was gutted and reconstructed, the basement was finished, the garage was transformed into a spacious laundry room, the bed and bath rooms were redone and one little girl's wish of having a room fit for a princess was realized. Every aspect of the O'Malley's home renovation was guided with compassion and love. And, after the longest stint out of their environment that they had ever known, it was time to welcome them home!

The sense of community was certainly one that will be tough to match, but seeing the O'Malley's explore their new haven for the first time was surely something that won't be forgotten any time soon.
