BOS@NYI: Barzal buries one-timer for PPG

UNIONDALE, N.Y. --Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored twice, and the New York Islanders ended the Boston Bruins' 10-game point streak with a 4-2 win at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday.

Mathew Barzal scored the go-ahead goal in the third period, and Jordan Eberle had a goal and an assist for the Islanders (6-4-3), who extended their point streak to six games (3-0-3). Semyon Varlamov made 28 saves.
"It was a big win," Pageau said. "We had to be ready from the start. We knew they were the top team and they were going to play a hard game, a physical game. They have a lot of details in their game.
"I thought we played a solid game. … We played with confidence and made some hard plays. I thought we were better than them around the net tonight."

BOS@NYI: Pageau beats Rask for SHG

It was the second regulation loss of the season for the Bruins (10-2-2), each against the Islanders. They also lost here 1-0 on Jan. 18 and were 9-0-1 since.
Tuukka Rask made 38 saves, and Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron each had a goal and an assist for Boston. David Pastrnak had two assists.
"I don't think we had our legs tonight (Boston defeated the New York Rangers 1-0 on Friday)," Bergeron said. "I don't think we were making, at times, our best decisions. We played a great team, a team that is very hard on the forecheck. They got a lot of turnovers out of it and created a lot of chances out of that forecheck."
Barzal gave the Islanders a 3-2 lead on the power play when Anders Lee spun and fed him for a one-timer from the left circle at 5:30 of the third period. The goal extended Barzal's point streak to an NHL career-high eight games (four goals, six assists).
Pageau scored shorthanded on a pass from Leo Komarov at 14:32 for the 4-2 final. The goal came less than a minute after Eberle was penalized for high-sticking.
"I liked our response. I mean, that tells you a lot about the group," New York coach Barry Trotz said. "The response in those moments … you look at the stretch of the four or five games where something would go a little bit wrong for us and we let it linger. I like the fact that we just get back in the saddle."
Marchand gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead on a wrist shot from the edge of the right circle at 8:41 of the first period.

Pageau tied it 1-1 at 11:36 on a rebound of Ryan Pulock's shot, and Eberle gave the Islanders a 2-1 lead when his shot from beyond the right circle found its way between Rask's pads at 15:16.
New York outshot Boston 13-3 for the remainder of the period after Marchand's goal.
"I think from the 10-minute mark (of the first period), any puck below the goal line was a challenge for us to break out, whether it was miscommunication, just not executing, not getting there on time, their second guy beating our second," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. "We just had a really tough time, and so we got hemmed in our end. It cost us three goals, really, today. The first three goals, we had puck possession, we just didn't execute the play. That's where our problems were tonight."
Bergeron tied it 2-2 at 16:51 of the second period on a wrist shot from the right circle after a cross-ice pass from Marchand.

"I thought we showed some character," Pageau said. "We stuck to our game. … We made them play 200 feet. I thought we outworked them. Every line that got out there really worked hard and we got the good bounce for us tonight."
