Sean Behrens Team USA NTDP

The Colorado Avalanche selected defenseman Sean Behrens at No. 61 overall in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft on Saturday.
Behrens, 18, has played the past two years for the U.S. National Team Development Program. The blueliner recorded 35 points (seven goals, 28 assists) in 46 total games in 2020-21. The 5-foot-10, 177-pounder had one goal and three assists in five games at the 2021 IIHF U18 World Championship this past spring.

In his first campaign with the NTDP in 2019-20, Behrens totaled 40 points (seven goals, 33 assists) in 51 total contests, primarily playing with the under-17 team where he registered six goals and 31 assists in 45 outings. The left-shot defenseman also skated in six games with the U-18 squad that season and had three points (one goal, two assists).
Behrens was rated as the 24th-ranked North American skater on the NHL Central Scouting's final list. The Barrrington, Illinois, native is set to play NCAA hockey next season at the University of Denver.
The Avalanche acquired the pick from the New Jersey Devils along with forward Mikhail Maltsev in exchange for defenseman Ryan Graves in a trade on July 15. It was originally the New York Islanders' selection (Devils previously acquired).
