Oilers defeat Coyotes, end home skid

EDMONTON -- Leon Draisaitl and Oscar Klefbom each had a goal and two assists in a 5-2 win against the Arizona Coyotes at Rogers Place on Tuesday.
Matt Hendricks, Mark Letestu and Patrick Maroon also scored and Cam Talbot made 23 saves for Edmonton (30-19-8). Connor McDavid had two assists to take sole possession of the NHL scoring race with 63 points.
The win ended the Oilers' three-game home losing streak. Edmonton scored two goals in its previous four games.

"It feels really good to get off the schneid a bit as a team and get five goals, especially with so many different guys scoring," Draisaitl said. "It feels really nice to get going offensively again."

Josh Jooris and Martin Hanzal scored for Arizona (19-29-7). Louis Domingue made 28 saves in his first start since Jan. 19.
Jooris gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead at 10:44 of the first period after a point shot from Oliver Ekman-Larsson hit him in front and got past Talbot.

Draisaitl tied it with a power-play goal and Hendricks gave Edmonton a 2-1 lead 31 seconds later off a scramble in the crease at 3:27 of the second period. The Coyotes requested a coach's challenge for goaltender interference, but the goal stood after a review.
"Our first 20 [minutes] wasn't really great, wasn't really polished and we came into the dressing room down by a goal," Hendricks said. "But we talked about it and said we just had to loosen up a little bit and play our game. We know that we have the ability to play with anybody in this league. We just had to get momentum back on our side and start rolling."
Hanzal made it 2-2 at 3:33 when he took a cross-ice pass from Max Domi and shot it past Talbot.

"We took some tough penalties, and from there it kind of slipped away from us," Coyotes defenseman Alex Goligoski said. "We had a good first [period] and couldn't follow it up."
The Coyotes had a two-man advantage for 1:34 during the second period with Oilers defensemen Matt Benning and Eric Gryba in the penalty box, but were unable to score.
"We took penalties and our puck play was just red-rotten," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "We chased the rest of the game. They capitalized on their power play; we didn't capitalize on the 5-on-3 we had, and we chased it the rest of the way."
Letestu's power-play goal midway through the second period put the Oilers back in front, and Klefbom converted a pass from Anton Slepyshev on a rush at 2:43 of the third to make it 4-2.

Maroon scored his 20th goal of the season at 6:29 on a rebound off a point shot from Klefbom.
"This is a new thing for me; my highest goal count before this was 12," Maroon said. "It's special, but I can't stop. I have to continue to work hard. I can't get complacent and get away from what got me here."

Draisaitl tied the game 1-1 on the power play at 2:51 of the second period, taking a pass from Milan Lucic in front and went around Domingue before shooting the puck into the net.

Need to know

Hanzal scored in his third consecutive game. He has four goals in his past three games. ... Oilers forward Iiro Pakarinen had an assist in his first game this season after missing 56 games because of a knee injury sustained during the preseason.
