ANA@VGK: Pacioretty buries Stone's feed for OT winner

LAS VEGAS -- Max Pacioretty scored seven seconds into overtime, and the Vegas Golden Knights rallied for a 2-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday.

Pacioretty scored off a one-timer from the right circle from Mark Stone following the face-off. It's the second-fastest overtime goal in NHL history, and the third time it's been done. The record is six seconds, which has been done five times, most recently by Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander against the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 24, 2018.
"They were trying to do what we were trying to do," Pacioretty said. "That wasn't exactly how we drew it up, but the plan was to get up quickly. I don't want to tell you what the plan was. I won't give up The Annexation of Puerto Rico."
William Karlsson tied it for Vegas with 1:22 left in the third period, a one-timer from Jonathan Marchessault with goalie Marc-Andre Fleury pulled for an extra attacker.
Stone had two assists, and Fleury made 21 saves for the Golden Knights (2-0-0), who opened the season with back-to-back wins against the Ducks (0-1-1).
"We had something else drawn up, but when [Ducks forward Rickard Rakell] lined up on the other side and he really cheated on the face-off, we were able to win the battle," Stone said. "Just a quick strike."
Max Comtois scored for the third time in two games for Anaheim. John Gibson made 31 saves, including 14 in the first period. He is 2-10-2 in his NHL career against Vegas.

ANA@VGK: Comtois scores on odd-man rush

Comtois scored on a 3-on-1 at 7:45 of the second period to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead. Four of his 10 NHL goals have been scored against the Golden Knights.
"He's got the hot hand right now and it's great," Anaheim forward Sam Steel said. "He's going to the hard areas and I think that's when he's playing his best."
Fleury saved a backhand shot from Rakell at 2:58 of the third period to keep it 1-0. Rakell was alone on the left side of the crease, but Fleury got across to make the save.
"We battled hard," Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins said. "We were outplayed for parts of the game. We got our feet underneath us and I think we frustrated them in the third period, but we wasted an amazing goaltender performance."

ANA@VGK: Karlsson ties game late with clutch goal

Stone has scored four points (one goal, three assists) in two games since being named the first captain in Golden Knights history Wednesday.
"We were fortunate today to have a quick strike off the face-off," Stone said. "Three-on-3 is so important at controlling the puck and hoping they make a mistake. Fortunately for us, they made the mistake one second into overtime."
NOTES: Comtois is the first player in Ducks history to score their first three goals of a season, and the first in the NHL since Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid against the Calgary Flames on Oct. 4, 2017. Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews scored their first four goals to start the 2016-17 season, the most in the NHL's modern era (since 1943-44). … Fleury, playing in his 17th NHL season and the fifth-winningest goalie in NHL history, needs 17 wins to tie Ed Belfour (484) on the all-time list. … Vegas is 11-2 against Anaheim, including 5-1 at T-Mobile Arena. They will play against each other six more times this season.
