TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Bob Buesing as the 27th Lightning Community Hero this season during the first period of tonight's game against the Dallas Stars. Buesing, who received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, presented by Jabil, will donate the money to Champions for Children.

Since 2001, Buesing has advocated for quality, early education services for youngsters, volunteering thousands of hours to improve the lives of more than 17,000 children born in Hillsborough Count each year. He dedicates a lot of his free time at Champions for Children, an organization dedicated to building stronger families through education.
Buesing is a passionate believer in the long-term value of every child getting a high-quality early childhood experience and education, and uses his voice to spread this passion throughout our community. He has immersed himself in representing very young children, articulating their needs and working to provide innovative and community early childhood solutions, programs and awareness. Bob's commitment to the simple but powerful message that babies learn from the moment of birth has brought TALK READ SING information/education to thousands of local parents, childcare and preschool educators, and the Tampa Bay community-at-large.
Buesing becomes the 438th Lightning Community Hero since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the Lightning Community Hero program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through tonight's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $22.85 million to more than 750 different nonprofits in the Greater Tampa Bay area. During the summer of 2016, the Viniks announced that the community hero program will give away another $10 million over the next five seasons.
