TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Alex Sink as the 37th Lightning Community Hero this season during the first period of tonight's game versus the Edmonton Oilers. Sink, who received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, will donate the funds to Suncoast United Way, Tampa Bay WaVE Inc., Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay's JA Finance Park and the League of Women Voters.

Throughout her 25-year banking career, Alex has served in leadership roles on numerous nonprofit boards including the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, Suncoast and national United Way boards, Hillsborough County Education Foundation, Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay, Tampa WaVE, the Florida Commission on Education and more. Sink's efforts in the Tampa Bay area have encouraged greater entrepreneurism, community participation, philanthropy and volunteerism, all while spearheading over 100 million dollars in local support.
As a board member and active volunteer, Alex has personally worked with dozens of local startup corporations over the last two years, devoting hundreds of hours to mentoring, coaching and making key introductions for them. Sink championed a financial literacy Initiative, educating thousands of Floridians on responsible financial management. She also made it possible for over 145,000 elementary students to receive financial literacy education through Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay. Alex hopes to leave a legacy of inspiring others by example to serve their communities, mentor young entrepreneurs, encourage young leaders and educate individuals on financial responsibly.
Alex Sink becomes the 308th Lightning Community Hero since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the Lightning Community Hero program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through this evening's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $15.5 million to more than 400 different nonprofits in the Greater Tampa Bay area. During the summer of 2016, the Vinik's announced that the community hero program will give away another $10-million over the next five seasons.
