GAMEDAY: Oilers at Jets

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets will play the second of back-to-back preseason games tonight at Canada Life Centre when they host the Edmonton Oilers at 7 CT. (TSN 3, 680 CJOB/Power 97)

The Jets are coming off a 3-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night in a game where they dressed the likes of Scheifele, Connor, Morrissey and Vilardi. 

Tonight veteran players like Neal Pionk, Alex Iafallo, Morgan Barron, Dylan Samberg, Nino Niederreiter and Adam Lowry play their first game of the preseason.

“Obviously excited to get back in game action. With camp kind of well underway, it’s nice to get some action, get the competitive juices flowing and kind of get to see how the line looks in a game,” said Lowry.

“Obviously we’re building for the first game against Boston, but this is a good step in the right direction.”

It will be the first chance for Lowry, Morgan Barron and Brad Lambert to show what they can do this preseason. There is a ton of speed on both sides of the Jets captain and head coach Scott Arniel is hoping for a return to form for Lowry’s line.

“I’d like to get back into it where those guys – I call them a checking line, but they end up having the puck all the time,” said Arniel.

“That’s the line that I want to get back. The one that makes the top lines play in their end of the rink for the whole shift.”

Meanwhile, the battle for spots continues amongst the younger players in the organization. Dom DiVincentiis gets his first start in goal this preseason as he battles with Moose teammate Thomas Milic for the backup spot behind Stuart Skinner.

“He just seems to be a young goaltender that's grown. I know Flats (Wade Flaherty) has worked with him lots. Drew (MacIntyre) as well now with the Moose,” said Arniel.

“He just seems to be a guy that's a year older just like we talked about defenceman or forwards. He’s a year older, feels a little bit more confident facing those Kyle Connor shots, Scheifele shots, and Morrissey shots. And he looks big, and that's kind of what you hope for.”

DiVincentiis’ teammate on the Moose, Danny Zhilkin is another one of the prospects that are pushing for a chance to be on the opening night roster. Zhilkin had a strong season in the AHL and earned some praise during his stint with the Jets in 2025-26.

“I feel awesome,” said Zhilkin.

“Gained around 10 pounds this last summer, so feel stronger, faster, more powerful, and just hoping to play with that confidence again and hoping to have another good year.”

Zhilkin along with Brayden Yager, Parker Ford and Brad Lambert are all trying to stay up with the Jets.

“Yeah, we're excited. Obviously, we know what the opportunities are, and what we have to do every day to kind of get those opportunities,” said Zhilkin.

“Obviously, we're all buddies, and we're all cheering for each other, but we're also fighting for jobs at the same time. So, hoping to make the best of it.”
